This tutorial is going to show photoshoppers how to take a portrait and add the illusion of makeup, nice hair, and smooth skin!
Step 1: Choose a high quality image of a person's face, preferably with little to no makeup. I'm using this image of Taissa Farmiga from American Horror Story.
Step 1: Choose a high quality image of a person's face, preferably with little to no makeup. I'm using this image of Taissa Farmiga from American Horror Story.
Step 2: The first thing we want to do is smooth out her skin. Select just her face, and paste it onto a new separate layer.
Step 3: Erase all hard lined features from their face (eyebrows, eyes, nose, lips)
Step 4: Select, noise, then median, and adjust the settings for your desired smoothness.
Step 5: Bring visibility back to the first layer, the place the smooth face over the original. Change to opacity of the face layer to make it look as realistic as possible. Mine is set at 53%. Then merge that layer down to the original.
Step 6: Eyebrows! Fill in sparse areas with the paint tool at a low opacity, using a color you think matches your person's eyebrows.
Step 7: Now it's time to brighten the eyes/face. Use burn and dodge to add contrast to dull areas and highlight key features!
Step 8: Add eye makeup using the paint tool. You can add black eyeliner by creating a thin black like above the eye, and smokey eyeshadow with different shades of brown paint! Watch the opacity levels, 100% is WAY too much for this portion.
Step 9: Change lip color to your desire! Select the lips and feather out the edges. Then click on image-> hue/saturation and change to your favorite lip color!
Step 10: The last step used is to create a filter layer, and increase contrast/brightness/hue to alter the hair. Invert the layer then paint it onto the places that her hair is present. I increased contrast and lowered the hue to a redder shade.
Final product! I hope you had fun trying out this tutorial!
